What parents should know
AI-assisted learning is help with the step, not a ghostwritten assignment. The student should be able to explain what they turned in. A parent or a teacher should be able to see the session.

What is AI-assisted learning?
Assisted learning means the tool explains, hints, or asks a question, and the student tries the next step. That can be homework help, a tutor-style chat, or research with sources. It is not the same as an answer engine that returns a paragraph to paste.
UNESCO's student AI competency work treats using AI as something students learn to do with judgment, not as a button that replaces the task. A school rule should say when help is allowed and what must stay in the student's own words.
Why AI-assisted learning matters
A finished answer feels like saved time. It also hides whether the student learned the skill. Teachers cannot coach what they cannot see. A transcript of the hint, plus work the student still has to produce, keeps the student in the loop.
Families and schools can allow the same habit: use the tool to get unstuck, then close it and write the last line yourself. The product either supports that stop or it does not.
