What parents should know
A teen account is a product's middle setting, usually for about ages 13 to 17. Defaults are stricter than an adult account. A parent may get some controls. Many of those designs still do not let the parent read the chats. HeyOtto is different in a plain way: a parent creates the account for ages 8–18 and can read the chats.

What are teen accounts?
Companies added teen accounts after pressure to stop treating a 14-year-old like a 30-year-old. Typical pieces are private-by-default profiles, limits on messages from strangers, and a parent dashboard of settings. The missing piece, often, is the transcript. An alert without the words is a different tool from an alert with the chat.
HeyOtto does not use a separate teen tier that the child opens alone. The parent provisions the account across ages 8–18. Under 13, verifiable parental consent is part of setup. Topic limits are per child, so a 16-year-old and a 9-year-old do not have to share one switch.
Why teen accounts matter
The label teen account sounds like supervision. Read the help page for whether supervision includes the messages. If it does not, you are looking at settings, not at the conversation.
Thirteen as a start also leaves out younger children. A family with an 11-year-old needs a product that says so, not a teen mode with a false age.
