AI student privacy is the school version of the data question. Who sees the session, what is in the agreement, and whether chats train a model. FERPA is the federal records law. HeyOtto does not claim to be FERPA certified. Read that page and your district's agreement.

What is AI student privacy?
Student privacy covers education records and the new text a student types into an AI tool at school. A teacher view of a session can be appropriate on a school account. Selling that chat, or using it to train another company's model, is a different decision and should be refused in the agreement.
FERPA is the US law on education records. A student data privacy agreement is the contract. This page points at both. It does not restate them as legal advice, and it does not say a vendor is certified because it has a privacy paragraph.
Why AI student privacy matters
Students will type names, grades, and drafts. If the tool is in a school rollout, the district is responsible for the agreement. Parents should be able to ask who on staff can see the session.
A family HeyOtto account is not a school record by itself. Do not mix the two. School deployments have teacher and advisor views. Home accounts have the parent.

Is HeyOtto FERPA certified?
No. This page does not claim a FERPA certification. FERPA duties sit with the school and the agreement. See the FERPA entry for the statute in plain language.
Who can see a student's chat?
On a school account, a teacher or advisor can see the session. On a family account, the parent can. Those are different deployments.
Are school chats used to train models?
HeyOtto chats are not sold and are not used to train other models. Put that question in the agreement anyway, in the district's own words.
