What parents should know
An AI policy is the written rule, not the tool. It should say what is allowed, what must be cited, and who can see student work. A slogan on a slide is not a policy. A demo can show which tools a school can turn off.

What is an AI policy?
An AI policy tells staff and students when AI is allowed, when it must be disclosed, and what data may be typed into a tool. Stronger versions name approved products, banned uses such as a fake image of a classmate, and who reviews a problem. A policy is not the same as a vendor contract. The policy is the school's rule. The agreement is how a vendor handles student data. You want both, and you want them to match.
Why an AI policy matters
Students are already using AI. A ban with no definition is hard to teach. A policy that names hints versus finished work gives teachers a line they can enforce and parents a line they can repeat at home.
