Meta AI is built into Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and Facebook, so most teens already have it. Parents can't remove the assistant, but they can now see the topics teens ask about and, on WhatsApp, choose a stricter setting.
Meta AI is Meta's AI assistant. It answers questions, writes text and can create images, and it appears in the search bar and chat lists of Meta's apps. Teens don't sign up for it separately; it arrives with the apps. That's why controls differ app by app.
Quick answer
Parents can't fully turn off Meta AI, which Meta says is for users 13 and older. On Instagram, Facebook and Messenger, supervising parents can see the topics their teen asked about in the past week, but not the chats. WhatsApp offers a stricter Limited Content setting. HeyOtto is AI built for kids, with parent controls.
